MASSAGE techniques
STUDIO RELEASE HILVERSUM

At Studio Release, we believe that a good massage is a combination of multiple massage techniques. It is our conviction that it is the mix of massage techniques that ensures that a massage perfectly meets your wishes and needs.

Giving a good massage is quite an art. Our team has mastered many different massage techniques and also knows which techniques best suit your needs. They know how to perform the techniques and what the effects are. A relaxation massage naturally requires completely different techniques and a more gentle execution than a massage intended to resolve physical complaints.

Would you like to learn more about the different types of massage techniques we use to give you exactly what you need? Below you can find out which massage techniques a Release massage can be composed of.

CUPPING
MASSAGE

Cupping massage is part of traditional Chinese medicine and is growing in popularity. More and more top athletes and celebrities are having themselves ‘cupped’. Cupping massage has many benefits. The glass or silicone cups provide suction (vacuum) that pulls up the underlying tissue. This gives blood circulation a boost. The results of cupping are impressive – the technique reduces pain and swelling, loosens adherent scar tissue and counteracts muscle tension. In addition, the treatment is anti-inflammatory.

Good to know: cupping looks intense, but feels very nice and relaxing. The suction can cause bruising and contusions that may still be visible a few days to a week later.

connective
tissue massage

Connective tissue or Fascia (Latin) is an important part of our largest organ: the skin. Subcutaneous connective tissue (Subcutis) lies beneath the epidermis and dermis. This is supportive tissue that is present throughout our body. It keeps our body in shape, gives us strength and suppleness.

Connective tissue massage techniques offer many benefits. For instance, it allows waste substances to be drained away via the lymphatic system. These techniques can also play a role in wound healing. Finally, it stimulates collagen (elastic and reticular fibers), which is positive for the elasticity, volume and firmness of the skin.

Connective tissue massage techniques are performed in the deeper skin areas. It stimulates circulation, reduces blockages and firms the skin.

DEEP TISSUE
MASSAGE

Deep tissue techniques help you regain the balance in your body. The techniques are not aimed at the muscles but at the connective tissue around them.

Many people often sit in the same position for long periods of time. The connective tissue around your muscles makes you even more stuck in that position. Therefore, it may be wise to use these massage techniques to loosen the connective tissue, so that space is created for your muscles. Your muscles loosen up and your body feels a lot more comfortable as a result.

These massage techniques have various health benefits. When muscles are chronically cramped, the circulation of oxygen and blood is locally blocked. Thanks to deep tissue massage techniques, this blockage can be removed. Scar tissue and adhesions can be loosened. By reducing tension and stress, your blood pressure improves.

TRIGGER POINT
MASSAGE

A trigger point is also called a myofascial trigger point. It is a small cramp and hardening in the muscle that causes pain. Trigger points are caused by long-term overuse of the muscles, stress, repetitive movements, but also injuries. Because the muscle is shortened and cramped, the blood flow in the muscle is reduced. Over time, the muscle weakens, leading to exhaustion and pain.

Trigger point massage techniques are mainly used for physical complaints such as neck, back and shoulder pain. These techniques are not necessarily pleasant and very intensive. The pain point is relieved by means of pressure techniques, manipulation of the muscles and stretching of ligaments and connective tissue. The deeper muscle tissues are treated quite hard, so you will have to grit your teeth sometimes. But you know what they say: no pain, no gain.

swedish
MASSAGE

The Swedish massage techniques are aimed at relaxation of body and mind. Depending on the preferences of the visitor, a massage session may include the use of several or all of the following Swedish techniques: effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration and tapotement.

Effleurage is used to help relax the body, calm the nerves, improve blood circulation and heart function and improve lymphatic drainage. Pétrissage is designed to reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow and increase lymphatic drainage. Friction layers work on deeper muscles than the previously described techniques. The friction technique is a pressure stroke and is the deepest used in Swedish massage. Vibrations are designed to release muscle tension in small muscle areas, such as those on the face or along the spine. Tapotement, or tapping and percussion, is a rapid jerky rhythmic movement that has a stimulating or reinforcing effect.

HAPTIC
MASSAGE

Haptic massage originates from haptonomy. Hapsis is the ancient Greek word for ‘feel’ or ‘touch’. Haptic massage is about ‘touching with feeling’. Haptic massage invites you to make contact with your feelings and the energy flow in your body. It confirms that you not only have a body, but also are a body!

Haptic massage invites you to get closer to your feelings. Through your feelings, you can make better choices in any area. It helps you to find a better balance between thinking and feeling. Balance between thinking and feeling leads to better functioning in every area.
